We want to share this very exciting news with the community. We were given the opportunity to expand our GSRP preschool program to a 5 day per week program, commencing August 28th. We will be the only public school setting offering this full-week program this school year. We have contacted all families currently signed up for the program. However, we do have openings for more students. If you are interested in this new program offering, please contact Rebecca Crotser directly at rcrotser@colonschools.org or 269-432-2121. She can connect you with our enrollment contact regarding changing your preference to a full-week program. If you are interested in enrolling tomorrow, you can head out to the Eligibility Assessment Appointments for children and families. It is Wednesday, August 9 at Sturgis Central Commons from 1-6 pm.

Families and Parents. We wanted to share a short video about our new entry procedures at Colon Elementary and Colon High. We now have a buzzer system as part of our recently completed safety and security upgrades. Please take a moment to review the short video, featuring our Magi Bunny, demonstrating how to gain entry to the buildings. You can view the video at: https://tinyurl.com/MagiEntry

All Colon Community Schools students receive a free breakfast and lunch this coming school year. However, we need your help as all families should plan to still complete the Educational Benefits Form at Open House OR online. The online link to complete is https://colon.familyportal.cloud/ The completion of these forms supports school supplemental programs & services. This includes discounted fees for some cable/internet providers and resources for school supplies and staff. Please read the letter from our Superintendent and Food Service Director about the importance of completing the Educational Benefits form The letter can be accessed at https://shorturl.at/bftCG All Back To School resources can be accessed on our website at: https://www.colonschools.org/page/back-to-school-23

Happy August to our Colon Junior/Senior High School families. We have important information to share about the upcoming school year that we felt was important to get out a couple of weeks before school starts. We have a different cell phone policy this year. Cell phone use is limited to ONLY passing time between bells and lunch. We realize this may be a change for some students but it is important for our learning environment. Learn more by visiting our Back To School site and clicking on "School Handbooks" (https://www.colonschools.org/o/colon/page/back-to-school-23) or visit https://tinyurl.com/Colon-CHS-Handbook

We Need You! Colon Community Schools has recently partnered with Michigan State University's College of Engineering, the DDA, Colon Village, and other local municipalities and governmental agencies to embark on a journey to ensure all of our students have Safe Routes To School! E-Mail Rachel Kowalski at rkowalski@colonschools.org if you are a parent or student who wants to take part in this very important project. The purpose of Safe Routes to School is to: * enable and encourage children in grades K-12, including those with disabilities, to walk and bicycle to school * make bicycling and walking a more appealing and safe choice of transportation * facilitate the planning, development, and implementation of activities that improve safety and reduce traffic, fuel consumption, and pollution near schools
