On Monday our elementary students and students in grades 6-10 will begin their first iReady diagnostic. Much like NWEA from previous years, this diagnostic plays a crucial role in tailoring your child's learning experience and ensuring their academic growth and success. Today teachers are building excitement for this new learning tool. Please reinforce the importance of "giving it their all" on Monday and Tuesday. Students in grades 11 and 12 will not test and classes for these students begin at 9:45 AM on Monday, August 28th, and Tuesday, August 29th.

We are looking forward to welcoming all students to school tomorrow for a full day. We know it is hot and thankful for the AC in our classrooms. We will monitor our students and staff to ensure everyone is comfortable hydrated and well. Please send students prepared with ice water if you wish. If you are concerned about the afternoon bus ride we do welcome parent pick-up and will work throughout the day with special requests if you wish to come pick up your student(s) instead. Our schools provide a cool place to our students, resources like breakfast and lunch and we look forward to having them in our classrooms tomorrow.

Good Afternoon Magi Families. We are closely monitoring predicted temperatures and weather for Wednesday and Thursday. At this time do not have plans to close or alter our schedules. A quick reminder that at Open House or on the first day of school your student received IMPORTANT forms that need to be filled out and returned to the front office ASAP. If you need additional copies of these forms, our Administrative Assistants at either building can assist you. For CES/LEO please email rcrotser@colonschools.org or call 269-432-2121 and if you need CHS please email nmcclish@colonschools.org or call 269-432-3231. Thank you and have a wonderful evening!

Emergency
Magi Families, tomorrow morning we head back to school. We are so excited to see our students! Please practice patience as you navigate to school areas and the community, looking out for buses and walkers. Here are some resources if you are looking for information. 1) Our Back To School page on our website can be accessed at https://www.colonschools.org/o/colon/page/back-to-school-23 2) Our drop-off and pick-up procedures for Colon Elementary can be accessed at https://shorturl.at/gjlmH 3) Our Building Entry Procedures reviewed at https://tinyurl.com/MagiEntry 4) Our Superintendent Community Update at https://tinyurl.com/MagiCommunityUpdate 5) Remember that at CHS cell phones are no longer allowed to be used during the school day, unless it is during passing time or at lunch. Be prepared to have your student put away his or her phone during class as there is a progressive disciplinary process if it is not. If your student or you have questions about schedules at CHS, please know that students will have an opportunity to discuss potential changes with the administration during the first week of school. We will not be able to change schedules "on the spot" during the first couple of days.

Colon Magi Families, You may remember hearing about NWEA to monitor progress of your child(ren). We are excited to announce that instead of NWEA, this year we’ll be using i-Ready to get to know your student and what they know and don’t know, so we can help them on their learning path! Learn more about i-Ready here: i-Ready.com/Tour. You play a critical role in your student’s success with i-Ready this fall. Visit the Family Center for more information on i-Ready and how you can motivate your student at home: i-ReadyCentral.com/FamilyCenter

Families and Parents, please review these transportation reminders for next week. Please be safe: our buses return to the roads on Monday, August 21 with lots of precious cargo. During the first few days of school, bus routes are often running early/late, that is the nature of transportation. Please be patient, be early, and do not worry if there are some delays. In each community, these things work out over the course of the first few days. Any changes to transportation for your child(ren) need to be communicated to the Transportation Coordinator & Department by 2 PM by calling 269-432-3231, ext. 6. Due to driver shortages, the Transportation Office is not currently staffed during route times. You may call either school until 4 PM. If you have emergent needs after 4 PM, call 248-770-5761 if you have an emergency related to transportation.

We want to share this very exciting news with the community. We were given the opportunity to expand our GSRP preschool program to a 5 day per week program, commencing August 28th. We will be the only public school setting offering this full-week program this school year. We have contacted all families currently signed up for the program. However, we do have openings for more students. If you are interested in this new program offering, please contact Rebecca Crotser directly at rcrotser@colonschools.org or 269-432-2121. She can connect you with our enrollment contact regarding changing your preference to a full-week program. If you are interested in enrolling tomorrow, you can head out to the Eligibility Assessment Appointments for children and families. It is Wednesday, August 9 at Sturgis Central Commons from 1-6 pm.
